Abstract

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of aromatherapy hand massage on the stress before night duty of Registered Nurses.

Method : The data were collected during the period from Oct. 10 to Oct. 30, 2005 at S-Hospital in Seoul. There were firty-five subjects, 25 for the experimental and 21 for the control group. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ©÷-test and paired t-test with SPSS program. ¥ö

Result : The systolic blood pressure was reduced significantly, but there were no significant differences in the pulse rate and diastolic blood pressure between two groups. Score of subjective stress decreased significantly after aromatherapy hand massage and level of Cortisol in serum was reduced significantly.

Conclusion : Aromatherapy could be useful intervention to reduce stress of the nurses during night duty.
